Arvia MacKaye

Arvia MacKayeDaughter of Percy MacKaye, Arvia was quite an artist and pioneer in her own right. She was among the early American anthroposophists living in Dornach when Rudolf Steiner was alive, and this while she was still a very young woman. Thus, her entire adult life was devoted to enlivening the world through anthroposophical spiritual science. This shows in her own art, and especially in her pioneering work for the practical arts in Waldorf education. Among other accomplishments, she founded the Adonis Press in 1941 and, in 1972, was a co--founder of the Hawthorne Valley ("Farm School") Association.
